Korea Land and Housing Corporation to install elevators in low-rise permanent rental apartments
Invested KRW 1.6 billion in apartments in Pyeongtaek to address needs of residents with limited mobility 2011/09 The Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) is taking the lead in solving the needs of residents with long-term public rental housing with its facility improvement project. LH's Long-Term Public Rental Housing Facility Improvement Project is a matching fund project implemented by MOLIT and LH since 2009 to improve the quality of life of residents in permanent rental and 50-year public rental housing that has been built for more than 15 years. Through this program, LH is implementing projects to improve the environment inside the units, improve common use facilities for residents, install facilities for the disabled and crime prevention facilities, install balcony sashes, and improve heating systems, taking into account the conditions of each apartment complex. This year, the project started in June for 110,000 units in 106 complexes with a total project cost of 55.2 billion won (469 billion won in national expenditure and 8.3 billion won in LH), and is scheduled for completion by the end of this year. Through the project, an elevator was installed in a permanent rental apartment in Pyeongtaek last month. The apartment is a 19-year-old, six-story permanent rental apartment that LH supplied in 1992, and there are many residents with limited mobility, including the severely disabled and the elderly, so it is essential to install an elevator. LH invested a total of KRW 1.6 billion to install the elevator and solve the residents' needs. To minimize residents' inconvenience and collect their opinions, LH provides customized services for each complex by holding resident briefings and surveys from the stage of selecting items for facility improvement projects to promote the projects that residents want most. As a result, 82% of the residents surveyed in the past two years showed high satisfaction with the improvement of the living environment, especially the installation of corridor sashes and the improvement of the interior environment. Meanwhile, LH, which owns 72% (580,000 units) of Korea's long-term public rental housing, is not just supplying rental housing, but is also striving to improve the quality of life of its residents. An LH official said, "As we enter the era of 580,000 rental housing units supplied by LH, we will do our best to become a No. 1 after-sales service company that strives to improve the quality of life of rental housing residents, not just supply them." |
