The Korea Elevator Safety Management Institute (CEO Gong Chang-seok, hereinafter referred to as KESI) held the 'Inspector Safety Practice Resolution Conference' at the headquarters training center on the 25th of last month with about 100 employees attending.

The meeting was urgently organized to prevent the recurrence of similar accidents in the future in response to the fatal accident of an inspector who lost his life while performing an elevator completion inspection at a new apartment building in Busan on March 18th. 

The elevator accident occurred at a new apartment building in Bujeon-dong, Busanjin-gu, Busan around 4 p.m. on the 18th of last month, when the elevator suddenly started to operate during the elevator inspection work, causing Mr. Kim Mo, an inspector belonging to Seunganwon, to be pinned between the building and the elevator machine. He was immediately rescued by the emergency services and taken to the hospital, but died during treatment.

Seung-An-Won is puzzled by the death of an inspector, the first such accident since its opening. 

"We have been working tirelessly to protect the safety of the public from elevators, but I honestly tell you that there is no excuse for the death of an inspector who is supposed to protect the public's elevator safety." "Just as the ground hardens after rain, we will do our utmost to prevent the safety accident of elevator inspectors from recurring, and we will make up for the shortcomings and boldly correct the mistakes to become a new public elevator safety agency," said Gong Chang-seok, the director of the agency.

He then read out a resolution on the safety practice of elevator inspectors, which included the main contents of ▲ complying with the rules and regulations of the inspection safety manual, ▲ wearing safety equipment and auxiliary equipment compulsorily, ▲ choosing the safest way to carry out inspection work, ▲ eliminating potential risk factors and making risk forecasting activities a part of daily life, and ▲ special training on prevention of safety accidents.

In the future, the company plans to thoroughly strengthen the regulations of the inspector manual and employee training necessary for safe inspection work. "We will thoroughly analyze the causes of the accident and strive to prevent any accidents from occurring in the future," said Gong Chang-seok, director of the company. Meanwhile, this is the first time an inspector has died on the job since the company was founded 20 years ago.
